Islay Community Action Plan

A DETAILED COMMUNITY CONSULTATION TO DEVELOP A COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN FOR ISLAY

************************************

UPDATE AUGUST 2023

*************************************

We had a very successful day at the fantastic Islay, Jura and Colonsay Show.  The ICC tent was very busy and thanks so much to all the folk who sat down and told us what they think and filled in the questionnaires.

In total we now have 239 questionnaires, the vast majority from Islay residents and regular visitors. Analysing what we have got so far is quite a complex job – but we will post an update soon to tell you what we find from our first look through.

We definitely want to hear from more of you we will be doing our best to make sure you have the opportunity to talk to us in person as well as write down your thoughts. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch through our dedicated email on the website, where you can download a copy of the questionnaire which you can fill in and email back to us.

Very many congratulation to the local Islay resident who won our spectacular grand prize draw at the show and very many thanks to the local distilleries who supported the draw so generously.

Please click here to download the questionnaire: save it, fill it in and email it back to us at Islaycap@outlook.com.

ICAP

WE WANT THE WHOLE ISLAY COMMUNITY TO SET THE AGENDA FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAY OVER THE NEXT TEN YEARS.

IN PHASE ONE we will consult widely across the island : with individuals, organisations and businesses.  We need a clear, detailed list of the aspects of life on Islay which folk think are the most important for the development and future success of the island community.

IN PHASE TWO we will develop a focused questionnaire to explore the development themes we have identified. We want a deep dive into the specific details of how the community wants to change over the next few years and how those changes can be brought about. In this phase we will also be collecting together up to date information about Islay as it is now : population, housing, employment, services, infrastructure.

IN PHASE THREE we will analyse all the information we have collected and begin to think about how the community can work to achieve its goals. We will be developing a draft Community Action Plan : where we are, where we want to go, how we get there.

IN PHASE FOUR we will consult again and test out the draft Action Plan across the whole Islay community. We will listen to comments and suggestions for changes and improvements. We will continue to review the plan until it meets the widest possible approval.

IN PHASE FIVE we will publish the Plan – and it will be up to the Islay Community to make it happen.

Five years down the line, when the Action Plan is well under way and the community is on the move, we will start the whole process over again, looking to update the Consultation and revise the Plan to keep it accurate, relevant and useful.

This Community Consultation and Action Plan is for everyone

Whether you are a permanent or temporary resident, or a visitor for business, work or leisure. If you are committed to Islay you have an interest in and a responsibility for the island’s future.

ICAP

WHERE ARE WE NOW?   WHERE DO WE WANT TO GO?

HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET THERE?

These are the key questions that we need to answer.  We want to know what you think is important about life on Islay. What’s good?   How do we keep it?  What’s not so good?  How we can make it better?

Don’t feel limited : tell us about anything which is important to you.

We want to hear from individuals, organisations, businesses – residents and visitors. Tell us about the causes of problems, about the support and help available, about the things you think are missing.  Tell us about the changes you want to see on Islay over the next ten years and tell us how you think we can make them happen.

Don’t be shy. Our email address is at the bottom of this page and you can contact us through the website.  Information & updates are also available on Community Council Facebook page.  All Community Council meetings are open to the public and places and dates are on the website.  All Community Councillors live on Islay.  Please tell us what you think – we will do our best to represent your opinion and put your choices into action.

TELL US YOUR OPINION AND KEEP IN TOUCH

We hope that at every stage you will give us your ideas, your comments and your suggestions. It is important that as many people as possible take part so that our Consultation and Action Plan is truly representative of the whole Islay Community.

We want to keep you up to date with our progress.  Visit the ICAP pages on the Community Council website. We will post results and updates and you can email us your thoughts and feedback on the Action Plan as it is written. We will also post updates on the Community Council Facebook page.
